Ever since the first vehicle rolled onto the streets in 1886, the world has had a love-hate relationship with the motor car. Today, with over one billion motor vehicles on the roads around the globe, it sometimes seems as if we cannot escape the pollution, noise and danger that they produce. One day a year is set aside to try and avoiding using cars and cycling, walking or using public transport instead : World Car-Free Day. This year, InnoVista Sensors employees in Shanghai chose to rally the Mengqing Park from their Shanghai Office. Mengqing garden was one of the most polluted areas along Suzhou River, where 754 household residents where relocated, and 18 factories including Shanghai brewery plant removed, costing the total investment of RMB 510 million. Located at the south bank of Suzhou River, the Garden was enhanced in 2008 and transformed into the “Environmental Theme Park”, which gave a green bower to the Mengqing Museum already opened (2005). It’s now a combination of green landscape, exhibition, popular science education, public services and urban infrastructure.
“Good for the environment and good for the health as well, this was a nice stroll in the fresh air.”After a 12km distance through pathway of famous city landmark of Global Harbor, East China Normal University and Firework Factory Ruins, all participants arrived the destination via zero carbon trip mode, walking or cycling. Congratulations to all participants for their initiative and efforts!
